Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Different methods of the treatment - with a common goal: the natural, aesthetic look as a result.

The hairs on the chaplet of the hair are genetically programmed to grow for a lifetime. This represents also the basis of all-natural hair transplant methods. This method of treatment is characterized basically by the specific removal of the hair root units (FU). The follicular units are individually removed from the donor area using very fine instruments.

To start with, the desired results and your hair situation should to be the basis for the choice of the most appropriate treatment. It can not be generally stated that the method A or B would be the better standard practice.

This is how the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) works:

The individual hair root units are dissected from the donor site with a fine instrument. The same amount of hair follicular units is taken as needed for the transplants. In general, the method is more suitable for small treatments, the donor area is considered, any way at all methods, as a limited resource. The treatment is carried our in some cases following a bald shave on the donor site.

According to the different clinical experience and technology, the follicular units taken, are individually prepared before they are transplanted or are transplanted directly right away after they were taken.

The recipient area (bald or thinning areas) is prepared by creating very small openings (Slits). During the next step, the follicular units are transplanted to the recipient area. Here, the instruments used during the treatment are adjusted to the hair structure.

The highest natural hair thickness has an average of 100 FU / cm ².

Depending on the hair color and hair thickness a hair thickness of 50 FUs / cm ² thinned by loss of hair is still supposed to be thick. The loss of 50 percent hair therefore cannot be recognized aesthetically. Only at a hair thickness of less than 50 FUs / cm ² has the hair a thinned image, looks transparent and thin. It is possible to obtain a thickness of 50 FUs / cm ² on a large area by the method of Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Transplantation. Only especially sensitive areas such as the frontal hair line are treated if necessary using transplants which are performed at a higher thickness (60, 75 or 78 FUs/cm2).

The choice of the thickness is determined by the following criteria and dependencies:
• consistency of the hair
• thickness of the donor hair
• size of the area to be transplanted
• estimation of further hair loss
• desired aesthetic result for a naturally thick looking hair image
